Orvel A. Knight, age 84 of Breckenridge, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Morehart Mortuary Chapel with Chad Ezell officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Necessity Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Morehart Mortuary.
Orvel Anderson Knight was born June 20, 1933, in Iraan, Texas, to parents, Oscar Knight and Hattie Hawkins Knight. Orvel moved to Breckenridge, along with his parents and three older sisters at the age of two.
They moved to the Necessity community when he was four and then moved back to Breckenridge at the age of ten, where he graduated high school in May of 1951. He then went to the United States Navy, Dec. 26, 1951, and was Honorably Discharged Oct. 10, 1955.
Orvel worked in just about every aspect of the oil field until he retired in April of 2002 and moved back to Breckenridge, where he lived out the remainder of his life. Orvel enjoyed worshiping at Cowboy Church and was a current member of Leon River Cowboy Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Hattie Knight; three sisters, Ileda Jones, Laveda Peterson and Nancy Lee.
Mr. Knight is survived by his two sons, Alan Knight of Big Spring and Randy Knight of Sonora; one daughter, Sherry Knight of Fort Worth; one brother, Bobby Knight of Brownfield; four grandchildren, Desiree Farmer of Midland, Lacey Blaine and Jeremy Knight, both of Big Spring and Randi Lynn Dyck of Essieville and 13 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, Orvel requested donations to be sent to the children’s charity of your choice.
His favorite was St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
